rejects proposal for centralized bus service

The St. Lucia government has rejected
a controversial recommendation prepared by a group of
consultants for the establishment a centralized bus service,
as it moves to improve the country’s urban road
system.
Minister of Communications and Works Felix Finisterre
has given mini-bus drivers, who fear that service will
put them out of business, several assurances that the
government had no plans to establish a central bus service.
He quoted the Prime Minister as telling his Cabinet colleagues
he had no intention to support recommendations that would
take business from the operators of the public transport
system.
But the President of the National Council on Public Transport,
Guy Joseph, has persisted in accusing the government of
