US company gets contract to develop
old Club Med resort

A Connecticut-based company has been named as the new
developer of the former Club Med resort at Bermuda’s
east end, which has been closed for eighteen years.
Tourism Minister Ewart Brown named KJA Development Inc.,
which he said was also involved in a hotel project in
St. Lucia, as the new developer with former St. George’s
Mayor E. Michael Jones as the firm’s on-island representative.
But pressure is growing on the government to provide
an explanation over why a previously favored developer,
the St. George’s Renaissance Consortium, was dropped
suddenly after spending more than two years and a reported
US$2 million planning a scheme that would have brought
a Four Seasons hotel to the island.
